Year 8 Students of Collingwood: A Wild Step Toward a Greener Tomorrow

A preview of the Tree Planting Video

As part of the Wild Collingwood initiative, Year 8 students recently took part in a hands-on tree planting activity, giving back to the environment while learning about the crucial role nature plays in our lives. This project, which took place at South Linton, is one of many efforts to encourage sustainable practices and a deeper connection to the local ecosystem.

Through this experience, students planted 200 native trees, contributing to the restoration of local habitats and improving the overall biodiversity of the area. The initiative not only promotes environmental responsibility but also sparks a sense of pride and stewardship among the students—instilling in them the understanding that they have the power to create lasting change in their community and the planet.

Watch the video below to see the Year 8 students in action as they dig, plant, and celebrate the positive impact they’re making. Their energy and passion shine through as they work together to nurture a brighter, greener future.

Why tree planting?

Trees are the lungs of our planet. By planting native species, the students are helping to preserve the natural balance of our environment—improving air quality, creating wildlife corridors, and ensuring that the ecosystem thrives for generations to come. Their efforts are a small, but important, step in the larger movement toward sustainability and environmental care that Wild Collingwood champions.

Thank you to all the students, staff, and volunteers who helped make this tree planting day a success. This is just the beginning—our journey to protect and enhance the wild beauty of Collingwood continues!
